Mythology Corner (California)
By: Alex

Hello readers and welcome to Mythology Corner. This edition’s myth is Prometheus Gives Fire to Man, a story about a giant or Titan who not only made man but also gave them knowledge. Then he disobeyed Zeus, the leader of the gods (the race of giants that overthrew the Titans from power) by giving man fire.

Once there was a Titan, Prometheus, who made man out of clay as a gift to his master, Uranus, leader of the Titans. He also taught man how to gather food and make crude tools out of bone and stone. But when Zeus came in to power he halted all other gifts of knowledge to man. Such as fire, taming animals, and building homes out of sticks and wood.

But Prometheus knew without fire and other knowledge, man would never survive. Which is exactly what Zeus wanted, he feared that with greater knowledge man would rise up and revolt against the gods. So Prometheus snuck into the royal kitchen and stole a spark from the royal hearth, which he gave to man teaching them to build homes, tame animals, and build homes around the fire.

When Zeus found out about this he was outraged, but instead of punishing all of man he punished Prometheus by making him push a rock up one of the tallest mountains in the harshest terrain possible.
